The human papillomavirus virus (HPV) can trigger cell changes that can develop into cancer.
What makes this especially troublesome is that HPV is a commonly contracted sexually transmitted virus with approximately 80 percent of Americans likely to become infected during their lifetimes.
That’s why the medical community is sounding the alarm, warning men and women to protect themselves from sexual behaviours that can result in an HPV-related cancer. If you are 60 years of age or older, and sexually active, doctors believe you may be particularly susceptible to the disease.
